Sans doute l'auteur n'était pas Mazariniste ; mais il ne méritait pas la corde. D'une part il dit aux gouvernants : « Si on parle mal de vous, c'est que vous gouvernez mal » ; de l'autre il dit au peuple : « Si vous souffrez, c'est que vous ne valez rien. »
